Located in the northernmost part of Lake Biwa along the Shiotsu Bypass on National Route 8, this roadside station offers delicious local cuisine and local specialties.
Located in the northernmost part of Lake Biwa, this area, also called Oku-Biwako, offers beautiful nature in each of the four seasons and fresh marine products.
The name “Ajikama” is a pillow word for the Shiotsu area and comes from the ducks that winter in Lake Biwa.
Various local dishes such as funa-jushi chazuke (fermented crucian carp sushi with green tea), duck soba, dechi yokan (sweet bean jelly), simmered Biwa trout, and saba ipponjyu (mackerel with a single stick of miso soup) are served at the restaurant inside the roadside station.
The roadside station also offers agricultural, forestry, and marine products harvested in the town and locally processed goods, and proudly sells its own specialties.
Popular products include duck soba noodles, “Shishikoro” made with wild boar meat, marmalade ice cream made with summer oranges harvested in Sugaura, and mackerel sushi.
Lake Biwa is home to freshwater fish such as shijimi clam, sweetfish, isaza, shrimp, and gori, and the roadside station is also working to spread knowledge about Lake Biwa’s fish by displaying a picture book about freshwater fish.
